What Surat-Cut Lab Grown Diamonds Actually Are

Loose lab grown diamonds are diamonds grown above ground rather than mined below it — and once cut and polished, the only thing that distinguishes the two is where the carbon crystallized. Primira stocks lab grown diamonds in two production methods: CVD (Chemical Vapour Deposition), where carbon atoms deposit layer by layer onto a diamond seed inside a plasma chamber, and HPHT (High Pressure High Temperature), which recreates the heat and pressure conditions that form diamond underground. Both methods produce Type IIa carbon crystal structure — the same classification given to the rarest, most chemically pure mined diamonds — and neither shows up differently on an IGI report; the certificate grades the finished stone, not its origin method.

Clarity, Color, and Carat — Stocked Differently by Color

Standard stock runs VVS1 to VS2 clarity only — Primira does not carry SI2 or lower, in any color. Every stone in inventory is eye-clean; nothing requiring a loupe to look clean ships under the Primira name.

Color splits the stock into two different shopping experiences. White and near-colorless diamonds — D-F colorless and G-H-I near-colorless — make up the bulk of standing inventory across every shape Primira cuts, with G-H-I priced as a genuine value choice rather than a downgrade, since the color difference isn’t visible to the naked eye in either tier. Fancy color stock — pink, blue, yellow, green, grey, black, champagne, and orange — is a smaller, differently-distributed pool: vivid pink and intense yellow currently hold the deepest standing inventory among the fancy colors, while grey, black, and orange typically move to custom-cut territory faster, since holding deep saturation steady as a crystal grows larger is harder to do consistently than growing a colorless stone of the same size.

Carat runs 0.25ct to 10ct+ on custom order across both color groups, though fancy color stones tend to shift into custom-cut range at smaller carat weights than white stock does, for the same saturation-consistency reason.
