Diamond and Jewelry Certification at Primira Luxury
Every loose lab grown diamond from Primira ships with IGI certification as standard — no request, no upgrade fee. Finished jewelry pieces come with SGL (Solitaire Gemological Laboratories) certification by default, with IGI certification available on request for an additional 3-5 business days.
Loose Diamonds — IGI Certified by Default
The IGI report grades each loose stone independently for cut, color, clarity, and carat weight, and the certificate number is laser-inscribed on the stone’s girdle — checkable anytime at igi.org. For lab grown diamonds, IGI is the certification recognized equally by jewellers and buyers across India, the USA, and Europe.
Jewelry — SGL Default, IGI for Wider Recognition
- Finished jewelry — rings, pendants, earrings, bracelets, and the rest — ships with SGL certification as standard. Founded in 2007, SGL now operates 25 locations across 5 countries, including Experience Centres in Mumbai, Surat, Jaipur, Dubai, and Hyderabad — laboratories where every certification step is visible. SGL’s jewelry report covers the full piece: the stone’s 4Cs (cut, color, clarity, carat) alongside the mounted metal’s purity and hallmark details, with the same girdle laser-inscription technology used for traceability.
- If you request IGI certification instead, you’re getting the same scope of report — stone 4Cs plus mounted metal and purity details — but from a lab with a larger global office network spanning Antwerp, New York, Hong Kong, Dubai, Tel Aviv, Toronto, and more. For buyers in the US or Europe who want a certificate their local jeweller, appraiser, or insurer will recognize on sight without explanation, IGI is often the more familiar name. Because this routes through a third-party lab, it adds 3-5 business days to your production timeline — the piece and its grading don’t change, only which lab issues the report.
What's Actually on Your Certificate
Whichever lab certifies your piece, the report documents the same core information: a unique report number, the stone’s shape and measurements, carat weight, color and clarity grades, cut quality, and — for lab grown diamonds — explicit confirmation of the growth method (CVD or HPHT) so there’s no ambiguity about origin. For jewelry, the report also covers the mounted metal’s purity and any hallmark stamps present. The report number is laser-inscribed directly onto the stone’s girdle, microscopic but readable under magnification — this is what ties the physical stone to the paper or digital report permanently.
How to Verify Your Certificate Yourself
You don’t need to take our word for it, and you shouldn’t have to. Every certificate Primira issues can be checked independently in three steps:
- Find the report number — printed on your certificate and laser-inscribed on the stone’s girdle.
- Visit the issuing lab’s website — igi.org for IGI reports, sgl-labs.com for SGL reports — and use their report verification tool.
- Compare the result — the lab’s online record should match the carat weight, color, clarity, and shape on your physical certificate.
If your jewelry includes a 360° video inspection, you can do this verification step before you commit to the purchase, not just after it arrives. This independence is the point: the report number is issued by IGI or SGL, not by Primira, so anyone — you, your local jeweller, an appraiser — can confirm it without relying on us at all.
BIS Hallmark — for Indian Orders
BIS hallmarking is India’s official government metal-purity mark, separate from a gemological lab report. It includes the BIS logo, a purity number, the assaying center’s mark, and a date code, confirming your gold or silver meets the standard set by the Bureau of Indian Standards. Available on request for shipments within India — useful if your local jeweller, resale market, or buyer specifically looks for the BIS mark in addition to (or instead of) a lab certificate.
Verify Before You Commit — Not After
Most online jewelry purchases ask you to trust a photo and a price. Primira works the other way: before checkout, request a 360° HD video of the exact stone — not a stock image, the actual piece — magnified up to 40x, walked through live with a gemologist on a video call. You see the inclusions, proportions, and certificate together, in real time, from wherever you are. Combined with the independent verification steps above, you can confirm both the physical stone and its paperwork match before any payment is made.
Sourcing Beyond Standard Stock
Standard stock covers VVS1-VS2 clarity, D-I color, Ideal/Excellent/Very Good cuts, across round, oval, pear, emerald, cushion, radiant, princess, marquise, asscher, heart, and Surat’s specialty cuts — Portuguese, Rose Cut, Old European Cut, and custom silhouette shapes. A specification outside current stock — a particular carat, color, or shape — can typically be sourced and verified within 2 hours, with the same certification and video verification before it’s confirmed to you.
